Celeste Headlee is an award-winning journalist, public speaker and author of We Need To Talk: How To Have Conversations That Matter. She is a guest host for National Public Radio and has anchored numerous national programs including Tell Me More, Talk of the Nation, All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition. In her 20-year career in public radio, Celeste has interviewed hundreds of people from all walks of life. Through her work, she has learned the true power of conversation and its ability to both bridge gaps or deepen wounds. In a time when conversations are often minimized to a few words in a text message and lack of meaningful dialogue abounds, Celeste sheds a much-needed light on the lost and essential art of conversation. Celeste’s TEDx Talk “10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation” has garnered over 20 million views to date.

Katie Finnegan is an experienced entrepreneur, CEO and changemaker who most recently founded Walmart’s retail incubator, Store No 8. There, she spearheaded investments in emerging technology to help Walmart develop next-gen capabilities that will enable the future of retail. Katie came to Walmart through its $3.3B acquisition of Jet.com where she oversaw Strategy, Fundraising and M&A.

In this talk, Katie will give her “fresh” take on the future of food Retail, covering how evolving consumer habits and rapidly advancing technology will drive tremendous – and exciting – transformation in the not so distant future. Q&A will follow.

Katie Finnegan

Most recently, Katie was Founder and Principal of Store No 8, Walmart’s incubation arm, where she launched 4 portfolio companies in under 3 years, including Jetblack, Walmart InHome Delivery, Walmart’s Intelligent Retail Lab (IRL), and Spatial&. Katie Finnegan brings a passion for retail and entrepreneurship to incubation. From sitting in on conference calls starting at age 8 with her retail executive dad, to early days in merchandising with J.Crew, to co-founding an innovative retail tech startup, Katie has always had a passion for retail and building.

She came to Walmart as a ‘key man’ in Walmart’s $3.3 billion acquisition of Jet.com, where she was Head of Corporate Development, Strategy, and IR (raised $800 million in Venture Financing in 18 months) reporting directly to CEO Marc Lore. Katie joined Jet in 2014 with the acquisition of Hukkster, the retail tech start-up she co-founded in 2012.

A recent transplant to Santa Monica from New York City, you’ll find Katie cruising around town in her powder blue 1980 International Scout with her sidekick, Gormley (a puppy Cavalier). Katie holds an MBA in Corporate Strategy and Finance from Duke University. A proud Colgate alum, Katie is a founding chair of the Colgate Entrepreneurship Network, recipient of the Ann Yao ’80 Alumni award, 2015 recipient of the Maroon Citation, and most recently named Colgate University’s Entrepreneur of the Year and Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business.
